We scheduled an 89.00 tune (per zone) of our AC due to the upstairs zone blowing warm air. The tech arrives and he's a nice guy.

He checks the units and says we have a bad capacitor, that he can replace for $354.00. I recalled a neighbor telling me this was a 10-25.00 part from a few years earlier so I googled it. Long story short, this guy "recommended" that I replace both capacitors, get two "hard start " kits and two other things for a total of $1776.00 plus the "tune up." Then he had the nerve to say he wanted to refer me to sales and I could get a discount. My units are 10 plus years old and there is no reason to replace them.

And he was so focused on selling me new units have never heard me tell him I wanted to replace my zone humidifiers. Anyway, I bought a capacitor from a local shop where the tech there told me what to do and in a half hour I fixed my AC.

What a racket. I don't know how some folks sleep at night.

Reason of review: Pricing issue.

AJ Perri Pros: Initial service inspection.

AJ Perri Cons: Conned with an overpriced part.

Location: Trenton, New Jersey

This review boils my blood. For starters, your air is not working and you hope to fix 10+ years of neglect and wear and tear for 89.00.

Beyond that, what relevance does the cost of the part have to do with the end product which is a full service repair by a skilled professional. You say you fixed it in a half hour? What about the time driving to and from the store, time in store, etc. Luckily you didn't screw it up or get electrocuted.

What about the free diagnosis? Remember, you paid for a tune up not a diagnosis. You stole from the company. You lied and said you just needed a tune up not that you had a breakdown.

With out that diagnosis you were dead in the water. Yes people don't sell parts, they sell service. I'm sure I could pick apart what you do for a living. You are a bad Customer.

It sounds like this Tech was doing his best with a bad customer and bad situation. 10+ years old and you are apalled that he suggested replacement? How long are these things supposed to last? 50 years?

At a certain point, the cost of repairs, inefficiency, and the likelihood of future breakdown justify replacing. As long as he explained that, he did his job. You are just mad that he didn't now to your dreams of a machine running forever without any expense.

If you are so good at fixing air conditioners, you shouldn't of called to begin with. George 609328****

My recommendation next time?

live in the heat, diagnose it yourself, buy the parts and fix it yourself.

Be careful capacitors store lethal voltages.

so next time for 3 to $400 your family can plan your funeral.
